Auto show: Wrapping up what's new

Cleaning out the dustbins of my notes (and mind) after last week's New England Auto Show, here's a wrap-up of new cars and technology not previously covered.

Honda had its new Accord Crosstour on display (above). This car continues the resurgence of the hatchback, this time on an all-wheel drive platform. While there's no hybrid version of this Accord, the company will unveil the CR-Z, a "performance" hybrid coupe, at January's show in Detroit (below).

Ford continues to enjoy increasing market share in these challenging times for the auto industry. To boost sales even more, it showed its brand new sub-compact Fiesta (now there's a name from the past in the U.S.), clearly targeted to the young and first-time car buyer (and their wallets, with a starting price just over $13k, and EPA numbers of 30 mpg (city) and 40 mpg (hwy)). And Ford is allowing enthusiasts to "advertise and promote" the car as part of what it calls the Fiesta Movement.

Finally, Kia brought a limited edition of its Soul youth vehicle—the Sinister Soul. When I test drove this car, I developed a fondness for its funky style and features.

The Sinister version comes in flat black paint (yes that's right), gray accent stripes, and blacked-out lights. Low profile tires on 20-inch alloy wheels complete the picture—or as James Brown might sing (see video below), "I got soul and I'm superbad!"
