Gearing up for DVCon 2010

Last year I spoke out quite strongly against DVCon – It was dominated by one of the big three EDA vendors who had turned it into a conference for their own promotion. I am glad to say that this year things have changed. It looks like a great program and there are many session that I hope to be covering for you here in techbites.com. I will also be active in DVCon and the collocated event NASCUG on Monday 21st.

On Monday, I will be announcing one of my latest ventures, which of course means that I can’t tell you too much about it at the moment. What I can tell you is that it is a book and it involves SystemC – but for the rest you will have to wait.

Here is information about the panel I will be moderating on Thursday at 3:30pm:

PANEL: Ever-Onward! Minimizing

Verification Time and Effort

Organizer/Moderator:

Brian Bailey - Brian Bailey Consulting and TechBites.com

According to the “general” consensus, companies are spending 70% of their total time and effort on verification and the trend is moving upwards. While IP and reuse has helped constrain total design times, it has, if anything, had a detrimental effect on verification. How do we ensure that we minimize the total amount of time, effort and engineering expense spent in verification, while maximizing the total design quality? Possible ways out include a greater use of formal verification, migration to ESL, additional use of emulation and physical prototyping, intelligent testbenches, etc. While it can be argued that each of these can add to verification productivity, this panel will attempt to decide which emerging techniques provides the best value for your money. Each of the panelists has experience in various approaches and several different points of view.

Panelists:

  • Janick Bergeron - Synopsys, Inc.
  • JL Gray - Verilab, Inc.
  • Rajeev Ranjan - Jasper Design Automation, Inc.
  • Ran Avinun - Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
  • Shawn McCloud - Mentor Graphics Corp.

So – I hope to see lots of you there. Let me know if you would like to sit down and talk about anything and we can set up an appointment.
