An Agile Approach to ESL Modeling

Electronic system level (ESL) modeling holds a lot of potential for many IC development teams. For a variety of reasons, however, many teams fail to realize that potential.

For some, imay be asserted that ESL technology presents the immovable barrier between a team and delivery of a successful ESL model. But with growing language, IP and tool support from EDA vendors, deficiency in terms of technology is probably a misdiagnosis. Lack of understanding when it comes to ESL technology could be a more likely factor but even great technology and experienced people are not enough. ESL modeling requires a focused, goal oriented, high performingteam for successful delivery. Not only does the team need to understand modeling technology, it also must understand its customer, the application and the process it follows.

This article identifies characteristics common to effective agile development teams and how they can be embraced to redefine the process of ESL modeling.
