Home automation protocol stacks will make Smart Home/Smart Grid applications easier and less costly to develop.
The ZigBee Alliance, has announced two of its popular standards, ZigBee Home Automation and ZigBee Remote Control, are now available for public download. The enhanced ZigBee Home Automation public application profile, announced in August 2009, features expanded security and device support. Since ZigBee is one of the major players in the both building automation and Smart Building/Smart Grid markets, making information about these important protocol extensions will help developers evaluate how WiMax stacks up against competing technologies like Z-Wave and other proprietary 802.15 air interfaces for their particular applications.
The standard offers control for home appliances, lighting, environment, energy use, and security. It defines control of HVAC systems, power outlets, motorized devices, doorbells, mechanized window shades, security and other devices. Products using ZigBee Home Automation are ideal for new construction, do-it-yourself and retrofit markets. The download and full list of features are available by visiting www.zigbee.org/homeautomation.
