Do we really need this iPhone app?

Now your iPhone can tell you if you're speeding!

The folk at an outfit call ASafeDrive have come up with an app that uses GPS technology to "eliminate unnecessary speeding tickets and reduce the number of accidents" due to speeding. Basically what the $0.99 tool does is compare your speed to the legal limit for the road—and then warn you if you're exceeding it by displaying colors from green to red, "thus keeping drivers' eyes on the road and their acceleration within legal limits." Warning can also be given by sound or vibration cues.
But if you ask me, although kind of cool, drivers should maintain enough situational awareness to know their speed relative to the limit without relying on such a crutch.

I agree what drivers should be keeping track of their speed. However, this app might be a great tool for new drivers, who have so much on their minds already--before certain aspects of driving become automatic.
