I had used LFSRs, knowingly or not, for many years but it was at a Texas Instruments seminar on boundary scan (JTAG 1149) and Built In Self Test (BIST) that the subject got covered in detail. That piqued my interest. I learned more later and finally I got involved in CRCs, which is just one application of LFSRs. That set the hook as it were and now I'm always looking for anything about LFSRs and their applications, be it CRCs, cryptography or whatever happens my way. That, in fact, is how I got to know Max.

I always read his articles in the trade magazines because they were not just jolly entertaining but also educational and interesting. I like how he writes with his British accent. Then he wrote about LFSRs. Perhaps he was also addicted to them? So I wrote him, volunteering detailed information that wasn't in the article. We exchanged many emails which led to many more topics of common interest such as Gray counters. The end result, here I am writing on these two subjects at this site.

We are always exchanging information and facts of the bizarre and esoteric. I think he has a larger cache than even me, but that's okay since he keeps telling me his and I tell him mine and thus both our collections grow faster than either would have on their own.
